Good morning everyone,

 

I want to congratulate you all on your first successful Open Class competition!  You all did an incredible job this weekend and should be proud of what transpired.  We needed to be extremely flexible on Saturday due to weather and you all rose to the occasion.  You are very much in the hunt.  We’ve got a lot of work to do before Echoes: cleaning up what we have, adding in Movement 4…..we got this!

 

I also wanted to thank all the parents who came to help make Feed the Band happen on Saturday.  Between getting all the food up to the high school and making the necessary adjustments, it truly took a village!

 

Quick Housekeeping:

One quick housekeeping item I’d like to address with students: Please make sure you are cleaning up all your trash in the school.  Sarah Payne was absolutely correct: the amount of trash that was left lying around the music rooms….absolutely disgusting.  The staff, parents, and other students are not your personal maids.  You are responsible for cleaning up your own mess and not just leaving it.  This is why we don’t eat in the band room.  At this point, there will be NO EATING in any of the music suite rooms.  This includes the band room, orchestra room, choir room, instrument storage area, and Music Theory room.  During Feed the Band events or when you grab food before a game, you will all eat in the hallways and throw away your trash once done.

 

Bands in the Stands:

This week is Bands in the Stands.  We will be having our rehearsal with the middle schoolers on Wednesday.  CVHS band members will be dismissed to the band room at 10:30 (during Nest).  You will grab your instruments before heading down to the field.  Remember that we will be eating lunch with them in the stands, so please make sure you pack a lunch that day.  CV9 students, you will be picked up at 11am.  Shanon will be on the bus with you.  Please bring your instruments on the bus with you.

 

Rehearsal:

We have our usual rehearsal on Tuesday and Thursday from 6PM to 9PM at Chapman Stadium.  Our Saturday rehearsal will be from 10am to 3pm.

 

Football Game:

This week’s game is a home game against State College High School.  As with Bands in the Stands every year, we will be performing two pieces with the middle schoolers during halftime.  We sometimes also perform one movement from the show, but that will be dependent on how much time they give us.  Since it is a home game, students can stay after school and go to the concession stands when they are ready to get food.  I will keep you updated on the exact call time for students who don’t stay after school.  This will depend on what time the middle schoolers are expected to show up.

 

Competition:

Our next competition (Echoes) is October 17th.  You will be getting emails about different ways you can help support the band during this event!  Even though it’s not a super long show this year, we will still need help with different areas so please sign up to help if you can!

 

Week of Championships (First Week of November):

I wanted to put this on everyone’s radar so we’re prepared.  The week of championships, our rehearsal schedule is likely to change.  I don’t have complete specifics yet, but we will be unable to have our typical Thursday rehearsal due to the PRISM concert happening that night.  We may be able to have a rehearsal on the Monday instead, but there may be a JV game.  The other day that may be available is Friday (11/6), but it would depend on whether we make playoffs.  I will keep you updated with a potential alternate rehearsal date, but please try to keep you updated.

 

For Competitions and Away Football Games:

When we go to competitions or away games, you must provide a note to us before the game/competition if you plan to take your student home with you right after.  This allows us to keep track of attendance and know where everyone will be.  Before the student leaves, we must see them with their parent so we know that they are with the adult taking them home.
